History of Malaysia Train Sytem. In Malaysia, the railway network system has always been a key component in the development of the country's growth. The first railway track was built in 1885 from Taiping to Port Weld. From a mere 12.8 kilometers of track, the network grew as Malaysia developed and prospered. KTM Berhad was corporatised on 1st August 1992 following the passing of two Railway Bills. Although still wholly-owned by the government, KTM Berhad currently operates as a private sector organisation, responsible for its revenue and some of its development activities.
